- Gulzar

“Ghar” or home has a different meaning for each one of us yet, it evokes the same emotion of love, warmth and security. Ghar may be the fragrance of your favourite food being cooked or your spot in the sun where it is blissful to read while enjoying the daily cup of coffee, where languorous summer days stretch ahead with the promise of tranquil repose. It is the place where one's cozy quilt and the world’s best pillow offer a standing invitation to that deep deep sleep. Home is also where mom calls out to you by weirdly abbreviated names which somehow make sense, where dad makes everything feel alright by just being. It is where you know your dogs are waiting to greet you with all the love in the world after however long you meet them, where your friend listens to you and knows just what you need at that moment. Ghar is an emotion that lives within us, transcending physical distances. Our cities, towns and villages become our home; their familiar sight, smells and sounds offer unparalleled comfort.

Ghar in its narrowest and deepest sense is our soul, which travels with us in each lifetime; and in the broadest sense it is the blue planet, our earth, which we take for granted, just like a family member.

In this exhibition we have curated 10 exceptional artists to encapsulate these very disparate, deep associations with “ghar” or “home”. Art works by the extremely talented and well established senior artists like Nayana Kanodia and Vinita Karim need no introductions or explanations. Canvases by visionary artists like Satyadheer Singh, Manisha Agrawal, Daphy Brar, Sandesh Khule and Priyanka Aelay draw the viewer in to experience a newness, to view the familiar, with a fresh new perspective. The Sculptures by Swati Pasari instantly transports one to a "pooja ghar”and fills one with peace.

This Exhibition endeavours to capture the magnetism of home; its lure, its pull. Every aspect of home that is highlighted in each of the works mesmerises the viewer with the sweet, simple warmth of a family, a home, a “ghar”. It is more than a place.
